The moon, the stars and everything under the sun

New beginnings and my friend ‘L’, Relationship series part 1

March 29, 2016 by Samantha

Sooo…

Here’s to new beginnings, new motivation and kinda a new layout!

And the main reason for the renewed motivation is.. This crazy talented gorgeous looking creature named… Well due to sensitivity of identity, lets just call her L!

A little intro about L. She is one of the most amazing being I know! She lights up every room she enters and her smile is infectious! When I first met L, I was like “What a time to be alive! She basically got everything going for her!”

While slightly intimidated by her oozing awesomeness and having kinda a bad day myself, I made my introduction via Daniel (my fiancé who was her photographer for a shoot). I couldn’t stop talking about her to Daniel after! She is just so infectious!

A few days later, while bringing her around Singapore, I was kinda surprised that she started opening up to me about her insecurities about life and relationships! And I was like ‘Woahh, seriously girl, have you seen yourself in the mirror? If I was your age, I would do ANYTHING to look and be like you!’

BTW, L is internationally known so not just an unknown girl next door. But that revelation also got me thinking. If a girl like L has issues with self esteem and insecurities, I can only imagine what goes on in the head of girls who are (not to categorize but lacking of a better word), ‘normal’! So basically, L can be ANYONE!

No I don’t want to save anyone nor am I trying to undermine anyone’s problems. But if there is another way of thinking, another way of loving yourself and another avenue to help young woman all over, why not try?

This is by no means a quick fix or a ‘how to blog’. But as we take time to know each other, get comfortable with each other, I don’t see why there cant be a small community here! So lets keep this chill, and comfortable. And give me a little time as I iron out all the kinks from the site!

If you have questions or comments just fill up the contact from and I will address it on the blog if possible (all questions will be anonymous). Contact forms until I find a way to manage the spam comments. hehe… Not a very IT person..

So I dedicate this blog to you, my lovely L, and to all the awesome girls/young woman who are reading this but have yet to realise how truly awesome you gals are. I hope and pray that as our journey goes, all of you will move on from this blog and into seeing yourself as you are, which is AWESOMELY made!

With much love,

Samantha Lee

Have you ever been crazy?

March 4, 2015 by Samantha

Like bat shit crazy.

Not the “I am gonna murder my ex boyfriend” kinda crazy, I am talking about the good kind of crazy. More like the “screw it, im gonna try it out” or the “ im gonna book that ticket and go for a solo holiday” kinda crazy. The “this is totally not me” kinda crazy. The positive kinda crazy and insanity.

It may not be a negative thing. You know as the saying goes, in every invention, there is a spark of insanity or madness. It takes someone who is slightly crazy or unbalanced to look past the norm and experience different emotions that will propel inventions and movements.

But that being said, please refrain from using insanity as an excuse to be irresponsible. But using insanity or madness responsibility may produce amazing results! Keep going and doing it for 10,000 hours may seem insane to some but that is the practice you need to be really good at something especially if it is an art form. (Though talent does play a part! But compare a talented painter who hates painting versus a mediocre person who does one painting a day for 5 years. See the drift?)

The word insanity is commonly used in a bad connotation, but the insanity I am talking about refers more to a spark or you can call it drive to keep doing something and keep doing till you are happy with it. Not to get success and make a living but who knows, there might be a chance of that happening!

And what is success? It means different things to different people. Some people attribute success to financial freedom while others just wanna be happy doing what they love. Eg, drawing, painting, music, singing etc.

Someone ever told me before that it is not right to encourage a person to chase his or her dream full time. Reason being that that person might suck it at so much but will keep at it and hence, suffering and not making a living out of it. It causes depression and bitterness when the person finally realizes that the dream they have might not be able to sustain them.

This is even more evident in countries like Singapore where success means putting food on the table, getting a condo, driving a car and being financially well off.

I totally agree to it! Being a dreamer myself, sometimes I wonder where my next meal comes or if I am able to pay for my insurance. (Yes kids, insurance is important!)

But on the other hand, what’s the point and joy in life when you do nothing but work for something that you don’t love? Of cos there are those fortunate ones who are able to make their dream their reality and live a life they are proud of.

So how do we balance it all up? I am no expert in this and I cant say “quit your job and go all in!”.

But my advice would probably be to go in part time! Find ways you can monetize your hobby! Sell what you bake! If you like to draw and you love to tell stories, be a storyboard artist! Brush up on your work! Keep going at it! And one day, you never know, that might became your full time job!

So take a chance! Go with the hunch! Take calculated risk. LIVE!

Love,
Samantha

Cookie tutorial, Melt in your mouth Valentines day butter cookies!

February 12, 2015 by Samantha

Valentines day is around the corner. Actually 2 days away to be exact! And since V-day this year clashes with Chinese New Year this year, I’ve been stuck in the kitchen baking like crazy as my family decided to have as much home baked CNY goodies as possible!

And that got me thinking, which are the recipes that you can create a twist so that you can use it on both CNY and V-day? After much consideration, I have decided to share this recipe that, with a little twist in design, can be used for both CNY and V-day!Continue Reading

Random thoughts

January 7, 2015 by Samantha

I had this thought today while walking back to my car from a doctor’s appointment.

I always wondered if someone told me that I have a year before I leave this world, what would my reaction be?

Will I break down and cry?
Or will I be glad?
Will I finally be able to say f* the world and do things I always wanted to do but was afraid of being judged?
Will I maintain what I am doing now?
Or will I go crazy and do things I never think I would do?Continue Reading

Days of thanksgiving

September 19, 2014 by Samantha

I watched Forrest Gump again for the third time and every time I watched it, it speaks to me differently. He is a man that wanted to live a simple life, with his life priorities in things that truly matter.

I guess being in this world we live today, its very easy to be grumpy and to blame everyone and everything all the time. And it is not in our nature, especially in sunny Singapore, to be thankful in little things that happened.
